we started off with mentioning why we end up with pain throughout the body and this week we delve into what areas can become affected. Again, short answer… kinda everywhere! Although we see patterns of tension occur with various repetitive motions (like that baseball pitcher we briefed about) and whether acute or chronic, there’s no definite way to determine where a person’s body will react to this trauma and that is a key reason I particularly love full body massage sessions.
So why can our muscles, ligaments and tendons not just bounce back to a ‘normal’ state? Our bodies have muscle memory- they get used to the repetitive motion(s) and begin to believe that this is the new normal even when these motions lead to harm such as a pulled muscle/tendon to even tissue becoming torn.
So, if everyone will always have pain, why even get massages in the first place?
Best answer I have found was shown in a meme (go figure, right) and it goes: People say the effects of massage don’t last…neither do the effects of bathing; which is why it is recommended you do both, often ;)
Life won't stop because we are in pain but we can start by continuously giving back to ourselves with productive bodywork. Remember, massage is not a luxury, it’s part of your path to a happier and healthier life!
