Last week we dropped a bomb on y’all and that was: sitting too much really is the new smoking when it comes to the negative affects it has on our body! So what’s affected from too many hours on the computer or sitting on the couch?

First... Let's talk fascial (fash-uhl) planes.. You keep hearing us say 'it's all connected' when asked why something hurts in one area but gets released from bodywork on a different area. Here's a quick few examples of what we mean by fascial planes.

Fascia is that thin stretchy material that you find covering chicken meat; yeah we have that stuff too and it gets messssssed up, you guys! That's why it's imperative of me to work on releasing fascia prior to deeper work during massages.

Now that you know a little about fascia, you can start to understand why full body massages are of vital importance to most people.

Because these fascia lines are out of whack. I usually see the glutes squished up into the low back region, hips become tight not only in the back but the front and side of the pelvis as well. Now your low back is constantly hurting and your breathing has become more and more shallow and that positional pain has reared its self once more but maybe now it’s consistent pain and those shallow breaths? You probably have no idea are taking place, until an experienced and knowledgeable body-worker shows up as your messenger and...sort of guide towards a happier less squished and healthier you!

Don’t get stuck with a potential higher risk of heart disease or slowed bowels or varicose veins from being sedentary with lack of body-care; your body will thank you!

Taking care of ourselves truly isn’t that hard if we don’t overthink or over stress the journey so stop by next week for a peak into the typical massage protocol for low back, hip, shoulder and neck pain due to sitting too much.

Tune in next week for Episode 3 - How to Overcome
